Get to Know Me

Hey there, in case you'd like to know more about your teen's Wellness Coach, here's some more about me. I'm from Albuquerque, New Mexico and I've been here most of my life. I'm an active desert and mountain roamer with a passion for outdoor adventure, environmental biology and youth field science education.  I have a master's in biology from the University of New Mexico and a Certification in Teen Life Coaching from Life Scholars Academy. I also coach youth mountain biking and track & field.

I'm happiest when I'm doing stuff outside. Physical activity is a big part of my life, and I'm proud to say that I've learned to embrace the quiet, and calm parts of life too. Meditation, journaling, and reading provide balance to the biking, snowboarding, running, lifting, yoga and more.

For over 20 years, I've engaged in scientific research with thousands of youths on experiential data collection trips throughout New Mexico. Teaching young people about the natural world brings me joy. Through this time, I began noticing student behavior changes. I witnessed stress levels rise, disconnection, withdrawal, and a turn to technology for comfort. I've also felt the tragic loss of young people who took their own lives. The wellbeing of our youth is on the decline and the data on youth mental health confirms the story.

I've been in dark places before too. I experienced crippling anxiety and the void left by seeking external validation. I tried hard to be what society said I 'should' be, but it was never enough. With the support of others, I broke through my unhealthy escape habits & victim mindset to uncover a life very much worth living. I got my joy back and now I get to share it with others! It's my purpose. Everyone deserves to experience joy. Sometimes we just need a little help getting there.
